Another great class! Okay it was Joel’s turn and he addressed a great training method for working techniques.
“Slow”- Work through the moves of the defensive actions you are working. Allow the body the opportunity to “memorize” the feel of each individual move.
Next…
“Flow”- Now begin to work your reps without stopping. Now instead of studying the defensive actions as separate pieces begin to experience the entire combination as a single move. Flow through the action as a single expression but again do this at a speed that the body can feel that expression.
Next…
“GO”- Now express your intent! Explode through the defensive action being aware of expressing your intentions rather than looking to express the physical movements. Allow the movements to now be that representation of your intent. In other words your defensive action has transcended beyond being an entity. Your intent has now become the entity and it is manifested through the actions. I know, I know a little esoteric but that is the best way I can explain what happens in the “GO” phase.
It was really amazing both as the one expressing my intent and the “body.” As the “body” or attacker you really had to pay attention to each phase and recognize what was happening to you as your attack was being countered. In both the Slow and Flow phases you got the opportunity to understand what could/would happen physically as the move was countered. Then in the “GO” phase as the “body” you really had to let go and trust that you partner was going to express their intent with a level of control.
Additionally it was an amazing workout both expressing intent and being the “body.” The dynamic action when being the body was like being on a wild bronco. You had to move with the action and ride the “storm.” So the combined reps really got the body temperature up.
Now the next thing, if you are looking for a good workout you gotta try one of these Tuesday night classes. Not sure if I’ve been a little lax or if each of the instructors are secretly competing to see who can make the most creative, heart pumping workout but Joel ran us through some great ab/leg routines.
A couple of other Notes:
1. Flyers are out for both Mr. Hancock workshops and JOMAC tournaments. Get yours at the training center or you will be able to download them off the site as soon as I can get it set up right.
2. Podcasts are just about ready. I thought I had everything about ready but I am missing one more step. I will get that completed soon.
3. New progress charts are about ready. I should have them available by the 20th of this month.
